Aussie Workers: time to bend over

Posted on November 18, 2005. Filed under: Politics, Society |

The Australian government is hell-bent on screwing the average Australian worker, with its new legislation, currently before the Senate.

They call it “Industrial Reform” and thats no lie. They also call it “Work Choices” and thats the biggest lie of all. This federal government, under John Howard, will go down in history as the most cruel and punishing government in Australia’s History. It will be remembered not for the good things it has done (and yes, there have been a few, if not many) but for the massive hits it has inflicted on the poor and middle classes, and how it has cozied up to the big end of town for the sake of …what… more money? future election wins? “support”?

I’m well over them. I was once a swinging voter… between the Libs and others. Now, I am opposed to all things Liberal, they have betrayed the country and its time they were gone.

A visit to Your Rights At Work will explain everything.

Since I posted this, last November, the new legislation has been passed and employers are reaping the benefits. Employees are being retrenched and then told to reapply for their own jobs at lower rates of pay, people are being sacked, with no recourse, Unions are being banned from workplaces, and the whole thing is a complete schemozzle. The reforms have left workers with nowhere to go, and have left Unions pretty powerless.

The struggle is not over, and the Rights At Work people are continuing to fight.
